What Cause DealScout Pop-up Ads?

It is a normal phenomenon that you occasionally receive pop-up ads while browsing the web. However, if your computer is flooded by DealScout pop-up ads, it may be a symptom of an adware infection on your PC and the name of the adware is “DealScout”. Like many other types of adware, this adware is created to get installed on users’ computers and display a lot of commercial ads on users’ browsers. These ads may appear in various forms, from relatively noninvasive in-text links shown in search result page, to very annoying pop-up windows that keep coming up on the web pages that users are viewing. But these ads have one thing in common that they are usually distinguished from other ads with words like “Ads by DealScout”, “Brought by DealScout” or “Powered by DealScout”. Here is a screenshot of the ads delivered by this adware.

How Can DealScout Enter Your PC and How to Avoid It?

Similar to other adware like Magical Find, GraphiteGrips and LaSuperba, this adware often enters your computer stealthily by being bundled with other software, especially those free applications. It can be injected into some freeware and get installed with or without your knowledge when you download and install the desired software on your PC. To avoid installing this adware as well as other type of malware like browser hijacker, you should only download software from reliable sources. Besides, you need to pay attention during the installation process and don’t just click on Next, Next, Next blindly. Even though you have downloaded the software from some reputable download sites such as CNET, BrotherSoft, Softonic, and FreewareFiles, you would get potentially unwanted programs installed on your PC. It is suggested that you choose the Custom or Advanced mode when installing software and carefully read the words in each window, so that you can deselect any unwanted program. Take the following as example, if you choose the Custom Installation mode, you can deselect the unwanted program (Skin Pack DB) with checking therelated boxes. But if you opt the Quick Installation mode, you will install Skin Pack DB toolbar, search engine and homepage by default.

What Threats Can Be Posed by DealScout?

(1) It may bring other malware on your PC. As we have mentioned above, this adware can display a number of ads on your browser. By clicking on these ads, you will be redirected to various websites that promote certain products or services. Some of those sites may contain malicious codes, and as soon as you visit them, you may get malware downloaded on your computer unwittingly.

(2) It may compromise your privacy. Other than displaying annoying ads, this adware will collect your personal information, such as system version, browser type, IP address, and online behaviors. This information may be sent to a remote server and illegally used by the creators of the adware. Generally, this information is sold to the advertisers and acts as the important basis for creating ads that may interest you.
