Besides, whenever I try to search something in the search bar, I get redirected to the search page provided by “Google custom search”. I have done a full scan with my antivirus program (Norton), but nothing suspicious was detected. How to get rid of yourtv.link from my browser completely? Any help will be appreciated.

Your problem indicates that your computer has been infected by a browser hijacker called YourTV.link. This browser hijacker can overwrite your browser homepage and change the default search engine without any permission. That is why you are always redirected to the website http://yourtv.link and Google custom search page. YourTV.link is not technically a virus, so it may not be able to be detected by a general antivirus program. To completely remove this browser hijacker, you need a specialized tool, such as SpyHunter, to clean up all its related components from your PC.

Detailed information:

YourTV.link is a nasty browser hijacker developed to promote its own domain page by taking over users’ browser homepage without asking any approval. Like other browser hijackers, it will change users’ browser settings, Hosts file and registry settings as soon as it gets installed on the targeted computers. Consequently, users keep being redirected to its own domain page whenever they launch their browsers. There is a search box and various links contained in its page (see the screenshot below).

At first sight, users my mistakenly think the search box is Google’s and use it to search the Internet as usual. But after they type the keywords into the search box and click the “Search” button (or press the Enter key), they will be redirected to a search result page provided by “Google custom search” instead of directly by “Google”. Even though users search something via the search bar in top right corner of the browser, they will be also redirected to the Google custom search result page. This is because the default search engine has been changed by the browser hijacker.

The reason why this browser hijacker changes users’ homepage and default search engine is simple: by forcing users to search the Internet via its own site and search engine, it can collect their browsing habits and send the data to third-party vendors for the purpose of advertising. Like many other browser hijackers, YourTV.link collects and uses the data contained in log files. The data in the log files include users’ IP address, ISP, browser’s User-Agent string, the time they spend on its domain site, and which sites they have visited. Third-party vendors can serve ads to users based on this information collected.

Risks of infection:

The browser hijacker will not terribly destroy a user’s whole computer system like what a Trojan horse could do. But this doesn’t mean that it brings no risks. Here are some risks brought by the browser hijacker:

Risk 1: Getting other types of malware infection. This browser hijacker will make changes to the user’s browser settings, which may lower the browser security level and allow other malware to attack the computer easily.

Risk 2: Personal information being revealed to unknown people. The browser hijacker will collect the user’s online data and other types of information in order to analyze his browsing habits and further serve many targeted ads to him. However, this information collected might be sold to or shared with other third parties without the user’s knowledge and consent.

Risk 3: Spending money on useless products or services. This browser hijacker can generate many pop-up ads based on the user’s browsing habits in order to attract clicks. Once the user clicks the ads and goes to the purchasing websites, he might be misled to buying the useless products or services.
