Step Two. Delete malicious windows registry

we need to open windows registry editor to delete the registry which is changed by this infection.

Click the start icon (or windows icon ) at the left bottom of desktop, then we will find a search bar which is provided to search program and files.


As we want to open registry editor, we need to put “regedit” in the search bar, then we will get a related result named “regedit” program, click it to open


As the “registry editor“ window is opened, click the entry “HKEY_CURRENT_USER” under “computer”


Then click “software” option under “HKEY_CURRENT_USER”


move to “internet explorer”


Continue clicking “main”


From the results listed at the left side, check “start page” “search page” and “home page” strings, delete them if they are changed to other unwanted URL.



Right click the string which is changed, selete “delete” to delete it. Follow this step and delete all malicious strings one by one.


Click “yes” to confirm the deletion



Step Three. Reset Firefox, Chrome and IE settings



* Reset homepage

Run Firefox, click main menu icon and then click“options”to open general settings window


Check if URL is added to home page box, if it is, we should rest homepage to default


To reset homepage URL, click “restore to default” button


Close all tabs


* Clear browsing history

As the browser settings of Firefox is reset, we should clear related browsing data for security

Open a new tab from Firefox, if the tool bar of Firefox does not exist, right click the mouse at the top of the interface, select “menu bar”


As the menu bar appears, click “helps” option and move to “clear recent history…”



On the opening window, click the drop down box from “time range to clear” and then select “everything”, then tick all the related browsing data we want to remove, mostly we need to delete:

Cache active logins

Offline websites data

Site preference


As all the data we want to clear is ticked, click “clear now” button to clear them all at once




* Reset Firefox settings to default (optional)

Click “help” at menu bar, then select “troubleshooting” option from drop-down list


From opening window, click “refresh Firefox” option


Then click “refresh Firefox” gain from the pop up window to confirm


Then the resetting process is activated, click “finish” when the resetting is done



Google Chrome

* Reset Chrome DNS settings

Run Chrome, enter “chrome://net-internals/#dns” on the address bar, then we will get a window as follow:


We can find that some DNS settings are changed by this browser hijacker, and this is one of the reasons why we continue getting this page when we open any page from Chrome. For this reason, we must reset the DNS settings to make sure we can regain the control of Google Chrome.

To reset DNS, click “clear host cache” button from this page

Then close it as we have done.

* Reset Chrome startup page

Run Google Chrome, click main menu icon and select “settings” from the list



Form the “settings” page, click “set pages” option on “on startup” section



Delete all page which is added on startup pages and then click “OK” to confirm



* Clear Chrome browsing data

Back to settings page, click “history”


Continue clicking “clear browsing data…” option


Then click the drop-down button from “obliterate the following items from” , and then select “ the beginning of time”


Tick the below browsing data:

Browsing history

Download history

Cookies and other site and plug-in data

Cached images and files

Autofill form data

Hosted app data

Content licenses


Do note that this action will make all the data we save on Chrome be deleted, including the password and account information we save from specific websites.

To clear them, click “clear browsing data..” option



* Reset Chrome settings to default

Back to settings window, scroll to the bottom of this page, click “reset settings”


From the opening window, click “reset” , then all the settings will be set to default


As the process is finished, close all tabs.



* Reset IE settings to default

Open a page, click main menu icon, move to “settings” option


Roll to the end of the tab, click “show advanced settings”


Pull down to the bottom of the window, under “reset settings” section, click “reset settings” option


Once the “rest settings” tab is opened, click “reset” to confirm the process


Then close all tabs

Restart computer and check if all the browsers settings are set back.
