  • If you use Windows 10/8, right-click the Start button and click Control Panel.
  • Go to Programs and Features or go to Uninstall a program depending on which view your Control Panel is in.
  • Find Hohosearch Uninstall, highlight it and then click Uninstall button. Then a pop-up window asking if you’re sure you want to uninstall this program will appear, you need to click Yes and follow the instructions given to complete the removal.


  • If you are running Windows 7/Vista/XP, click on Start button and go to Control Panel.
  • For Windows 7/Vista users, click on Programs and Features (View by: Large icon) or Uninstall a program (View by: Category). For Windows XP users, double click on Add/Remove Programs.
  • Find Hohosearch Uninstall or other unwanted/suspicious program which was installed recently, click on it and then click on Uninstall or Remove button.
  • Follow the instructions on the screen to completely uninstall the program you want to remove.

Reset the homepage and search engine of IE.

On the menu bar at the top of your browser’s homepage, click the Tools menu and then select Internet Options.


On the Internet Options screen, select General from the menu tabs along the top of the screen.

Check the text box under the heading Home Page. Delete the unwanted site if any is found there. And then type “” inside the text box


If you find the IE search provider is changed to another one, follow the instructions below to change it:

Click the Tools icon on the menu bar and then select Manager Add-ons.


In the Manage Add-on screen, you click on Search Providers and all the search engines available on your IE will be displayed on the right pane.


Select Google or another one you’d like and click Set as default.

Choose the unwanted search engine and click Remove.

Click Close.

Note: If you use Microsoft Edge, follow the steps below to change the default homepage and default search engine:

  1. Click the More actions (…) and select Settings.
  2. Under the section labeled Open With, select the option for A specific page or pages.
  3. Choose Custom from the drop down menu.
  4. Delete and then type the web address you want to use as your home page and click the Plus icon to add the page.
  5. In the upper right corner of your browser, click More actions (…) and select Settings.
  6. In the Advanced settings section, click View Advanced settings.
  7. Under Search in address bar with, click Change.
  8. Select the desired search engine and click Set as default. Remove the search engine you don’t want and the close the window.

Remove unwanted IE browser toolbars/add-ons

Click the Tools button, and then click Manage add-ons.

Under Add-on types, click Toolbars and Extensions.

Search for the add-on related to the browser hijacker and click on Remove button.



Note: If the Remove button of the add-on is greyed out and you can’t delete the unwanted add-on, try a powerful removal tool to scan the PC and delete any malicious or unwanted plug-ins or add-ons.


Reset IE to default settings

If still comes back after you have follow the guide above to change the homepage and search engine, you can try resetting IE settings to get rid of it. But please note that resetting the browser to defaults will clear all your installed add-ons, favorites and other data. This step also applies to Mozilla Firefox and Google chrome.

Click on Tools and go to Internet Options.


Click on Advanced tab and click on Reset button.


In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click on Reset.


When Internet Explorer finishes applying default settings, click on Close, and then click OK.

  1. Change the Chrome homepage and search engine

Click on the Chrome menu icon (three lines) on the top right corner of the screen and then choose Settings from the drop-down options.


If the start page of Chrome has been hijacked, go to On Startup section and select Open a specific page or sets of pages. Click on Set pages, delete the unwanted page by hovering over its address and clicking on “X” button.


In addition, go to Appearance section in the Settings page, check the box labeled Show Home button. Click “Change” and then delete and then type the desired address into the box.


In the Search section, select Google or another search engine from the drop-down menu. It will become your default search engine.


To delete the unwanted search engine, click on Manage search engines… and then find and remove the search engine that may be added by potentially unwanted programs.


  1. Remove suspicious Chrome extensions

Click on the Chrome menu icon in the upper right corner of the browser and then select More Tools and then choose Extensions from the drop down menu.


In the Chrome Extensions page, remove any extension that is associated with by clicking on the trashcan icon.


  1. Restore Chrome’s settings to defaults

Click on the Chrome menu icon in the upper right corner of the browser and then click on Settings.


Type reset in the search box in the chrome://settings/ page and quickly locate to and click the reset browser settings.


Click on Reset button when the box asking for your confirmation pops up.

  1. Check the Firefox homepage and search engine

Click the Tools menu from the menu bar at the top of the browser and then choose Options or you can click on the Firefox menu button at the top right corner and then select Options.


In the options page, select General from the menu options on the left side.

Go to Home Page, delete and then enter or other desired one to set it as your homepage.

Under Default search engines, select Google or another search engine you prefer to make it the default.


Under One-click search engines section, select the unknown/unwanted search engine and click on Remove.


  1. Delete related add-ons from Firefox

Click on Tools on the menu bar at the top of the browser and then select Add-ons.


In the Add-ons Manager page, select Extensions on the left side of the page. If any suspicious add-on is found there, click on Remove button to remove it.


  1. Reset Firefox to original settings

Click on Help and click on Troubleshooting Information.


Click on Fresh Firefox… button to restore Firefox browser settings.


Click on Refresh Firefox button in the pop-up window to confirm it.

Locate your IE/Firefox/Chrome browser icon from the desktop or start menu and right click on it then select Properties. (Take IE for example)


In the pop-up IE/Firefox/Chrome Properties window, click on Shortcut tab, check the Target section. If you find the browser hijacker appears there, delete it and then click OK button to save the changes.

For Windows 10 users, right click on Start button and then choose Run in the Quick Access Menu.

For Windows 8/7/Vista/XP users, press Win+R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog.

Type regedit in the Run box and press Enter.


The Registry Editor will open.

Press Ctrl + F hotkeys to bring up the Find screen. Then type in the box and find and delete all the keys/values associated with it one by one.

Warning: This step is quite risky because the system may crash or stop working if you delete any vital and valid registry key by mistake. So you need to make a backup of what you need to delete before making any modification on the Windows registry. Save it to a proper place so that you can restore it quickly if something is wrong during the deletion.
