What is YouTubeAdBlocker? Is it useful and trustworthy? Should I remove it? How can I remove it? If you are looking for answers to above question, then you need to take a look at this post.
The following is a description of YouTubeAdBlocker which is found on the internet.
From the description above, you may consider YouTubeAdBlocker as a useful application that helps improve your web browsing experience by blocking the annoying ads popping up on your browsers. However, if you install it on your browser, you will feel regret. Not only does YouTubeAdBlocker not help block ads, according to some users who have installed this application, but it shows intrusive and endless ads on their browsers. YouTubeAdBlocker, although seemingly helpful and legitimate, is in fact a potentially unwanted application which belongs to the adware category. Namely, YouTubeAdBlocker is a piece of adware which is often used to generate advertising revenue.
Adware is software that is downloaded to your computer, knowingly or unknowingly, and shows various advertising materials, commonly in the form of pop-up ads, on your web browsers. Some types of adware only display ads; however, some may also record your browsing activities and send that information to the third parties (its creators or advertisers).
YoutubeAdBlocker is often installed on your computer together with other freeware or shareware that you download from the unreliable sources. This is a common way for adware to sneak into the targeted computers. Some users do not select the Custom installation mode and carefully read what are said on the screens when installing certain software on their computers, and hence they fail to notice and refuse installation of some unwanted programs or extensions.
For example, when you install ImgBurn on your computer, if you select the Express installation mode, you will install Search Protect and set Conduit Search to your homepage, default search engine and new tabs. However, if you choose the Custom installation mode, you can uncheck the boxes to not install the unwanted program and refuse the changes of browser settings.
YoutubeAdBlocker is usually installed as a Windows application or program which can be found in the list of your currently installed programs. See as below:
It also has components installed on your web browsers as a browser helper object (Internet Explorer) or extension (Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox). The following screenshot shows how this adware looks on your browsers.
The main two tasks of this adware are to collect your personal data and display many customized ads on your browsers. Although some adware looks like a normal extension, it functions as a data collector. When getting installed on your web browsers, it will spy on you and sell your online data to shady corporations without your knowledge.
YoutubeAdBlocker could do such things, too. It records your IP address, version of operating system, type of web browsers, tracks information about your personal web browsing habits and sends the data collected to its creators or other third parties such as advertisers. Then, it receives advertising materials based on your recent browsing habits and shows them almost on every page you are browsing. So, you have known that what adware does with the information it collects. For a more accurate description, you can take a look at the following screenshot, which is taken from Quora.
Those ads delivered by YoutubeAdBlocker may be varied in forms, some are in-text sponsored links, some are pop-up ads, and some others are pop-under ads. Most these ads belong to paid-per-click ads, which means that you click on these ads, the creators of the adware can make money or at least benefit from it. But one problem should be pointed out that, some of the ads shown by this adware may not be safe for you to click, especially those claiming that your system has been infected by viruses and recommending you to install certain software to protect your computer. Such kind of ads would offer the “OK” and “Cancel” buttons within the pop-up window for you to enter your selection. However, no matter which button you click on, something may start being downloaded on your PC right away. This is a common trick used by cyber hackers to check you into downloading some malware programs on your PC.
Warm Tips: It is highly recommend that you close the pop-up windows by clicking on the “X” icon in the upper right hand corner of the window instead of any button within the windows. This can safely close the pop-up windows and avoid downloading any malicious programs.
