You might have installed TopFlix on your PC because you want to access geo-restricted content for free. But you may not know that this application would bring various problems to you even though it looks beneficial to you. Actually, TopFlix is considered as a potentially unwanted program or even adware program by most users. Feel surprised? Want to remove TopFlix from your PC immediately? You can try following the removal guide given in this article.
What do you know about TopFlix?
As we know that many countries have decided to arbitrarily block web sites access by blacklisting domains on local NDS servers, which means that users are not allowed to access particular websites (like Twitter, Facebook, PriateBay and PopCornTimes) via their own local DNS.
To access those blocked websites, users usually need a VPN or a special application that allows them to connect to a particular DNS server. TopFlix is such a special application that allows users to access the blocked websites by simply connecting to a custom DNS instead of their local ones.
“Using our DNS service, you can access U.S. restricted content. Unlike VPN or tranditional Proxy services, our DNS allows us to only proxy the portion of data which validate the Geographic location of our users”. These words found on its official site give users the impression that TopFlix is a legitimate and useful application.
However, after installing this application, most users would feel regret. Why? This application indeed enables users to visit the blocked websites and digital media for free. But this is not its main purpose.
Similar to DNS Unlocker and DNS Keeper, TopFlix is more an adware program than a tool that provides DNS service. Its main objective is to generate advertising revenue for its authors. Once installed on users’ computers, it will display a lot of customized advertisements on users’ computers.
The advertisements displayed by this adware program may include in-text ads, pop-up ads and advertising banners. Those advertisements are typically marked as “Ads by TopFlix”, “Powered by TopFlix” or “Brought to you by TopFlix” in order to make them different from others. According to security experts, those ads may contain links to unsafe websites, by visiting which user could be tricked into buying fake products or even download other malware on their computers.
This adware program may use tracking cookies to record users’ online information as many other types of adware programs do. It keeps tracking users’ Internet activities and sends that information to its authors or other third-party advertisers. This information may conlude users’ IP address, system version, browser type, email address, phone number, usenames of various websites, search queries, pages requested, links clicked, product purchased, etc.
The information collected is usually used for the marketing and bussiness purposes. Users may notice that the ads displayed on their pages are relevant to their recent search terms or browsing history. For example, if users search for vitamins recenly, then they would soon receive ads about vitamins on their pages. It is “magical” like that.
Note: If you hate receiving so many ads and concern about privacy very much, it is highly recommend that you get rid of TopFlix adware from your PC. We suggest you use a professional malware removal tool to perform a full scan of your system. If any threats are detected, you can remove them immediately within a click of mouse.
TopFlix can cause some effects!
There are a series of complicated effects that are induced by TopFlix. When installed on users’ computers, this adware will change not only users’ DNS settings, but also the browser settings. This will affect how users surf the Internet. Users will keep receiving a lot of annoying ads on their browser and may also be redirected to a host of unsafe sites. This is both annoying and dangerous. With so many unwanted ads showing up on the browsers, users’ browsing experience would be decreased. What’s worse, they might be scammed by cyber hackers and pay money for some useless products or unnecessary services. Besides, it has been proved that this adware collects and share users’ personal information with third parties. Such action can cause various issues, including email spamming, misleading advertising, and even telephone scamming. This adware can also affect users’ computer performance. It takes up the memory, causing users’ computers to run slowly. In addition, it may download a lot of advertising materials from a specific website, which affects the network speed.
